Juxtaposition Arts

Juxtaposition Arts envisions the youth of North Minneapolis entering the creative workforce as dynamic innovators and problem solvers with the confidence, skills and connections they need to accomplish their educational and professional goals, and to contribute to the revitalization of the communities where they live and work.

On Friday, May 5th, 2017 JXTA opened its doors campus-wide and welcomed guests to its first-ever gala fundraiser event, Move the Crowd! Proceeds from the event helped furnish and equip their renovated textile lab and retail shop due to reopen in January 2018. People wanted to give and they gave generously. In addition to traditional donations, they bought art! What a treat to receive the prideful smiles of apprentices as they got word that their work sold. Attendees enjoyed live performances by the one and only ZuluZuluu and Chicago-based DJ Ayana Contreras, helped welcome back distinguished alums.

As their Event Designer, I helped increase the effectiveness of Move the Crowd planning and logistics and was the lead project manager in partnership with the organization’s staff and Fundraising Event Committee Members. I enhanced the Committee’s efficiency and planning process by providing project management, logistical support, and representing the organization and committee as a first point of contact with external vendors and partners. I was responsible for setting JXTA up for success as the organization hosts its first major on-site fundraising event.
